Jason Momoa, best known for his portrayal of Aquaman in the DC films, has officially been cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as confirmed by Deadline. This casting comes as no surprise to fans, as Momoa has long expressed his desire to take on the role of the chaotic and violent antihero from the planet Czarnia.
Momoa revealed his excitement for the role in an Instagram post, where he shared a screenshot of a previous interview where he discussed Lobo. “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but Lobo was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play him,” he said in the post. Momoa went on to add that if DC ever came to him with the opportunity, his response would be an enthusiastic “f*ck yeah.” His Instagram caption read simply, “They called.”

Lobo, created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Known for his superhuman strength, regenerative healing, and invulnerability, Lobo is a bounty hunter with a penchant for destruction. His irreverent and violent nature makes him one of DC’s most memorable antiheroes.
While plot details for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remain under wraps, the film will feature Milly Alcock as Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts portraying the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill. Eve Ridley will also star as Ruthye Mary Knolle. Directed by Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira, the film is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, illustrated by Bilquis Evely. James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing, with Chantal Nong serving as executive producer. Production is set to begin on January 13.
Momoa, whose Aquaman films grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, continues to be a major asset for DC. In addition to his new role as Lobo, Momoa has several upcoming projects, including A Minecraft Movie, Animal Friends, Fast X: Part 2, the Apple miniseries Chief of War, and the action film The Wrecking Crew, where he will star alongside Dave Bautista.
Momoa is represented by WME and Edelstein, Laird & Sobel.
